Using Landfill Gas

Uses for Methane Gas

Methane can be used in almost any application that requires natural gas or propane. It can be used a fuel to provide heat for industrial processes, steam, or hot water. It can also be combusted in electricity generating equipment such as turbines or engines and provide power for on-site use or for sale to the grid. These uses, especially the direct heat-related uses, can take a variety of forms with interesting potential to tie into local economies. For example, the EnergyXchange uses their landfill gas to fire a glass furnace, a pottery kiln and heat greenhouses. The project is tied with local education programs in horticulture and supports artisan business creation via the on-site business incubator.
